Artist Statement

Albert Belous, known professionally as “RAYWASHERE”, is a 21-year-old artist emerging from the historical city of Aachen. His ambition is to disrupt the norms of classical art with his creations, employing a calculated disarray of style, rich symbolism, meticulous composition, and figures, all while portraying a lucid world shaped by his intellect. Particularly through contrasts, he aims to navigate and process his internal thoughtscapes.

Each of Belous' works is intricate, embedding subtle motifs whether they be the deliberate angling of lines, metaphors, characters, script, or the overall impression of the composition. Every detail is intentional, contributing significantly to the meaning and impact of the piece.

Fundamental to Belous' practice is the primitiveness with which he approaches creation. This rawness affords him limitless creativity, unbound by traditional rules and expectations, drawing upon the breadth of knowledge he possesses from varied interests in philosophy, psychology, biology, art, and history.

A distinctive characteristic of Belous' artistry is his exclusive use of a monochromatic palette, ranging from black to white. This choice is rooted in his desire to produce artworks that are sober, not influenced by the distraction of vivid colors. Despite this uniformity in shade, his works are starkly diverse, achieved through the use of various mediums including acrylics, spray paint, oil pastels, markers, watercolors, pencil, charcoal, glue, wax, digital media, photography and its editing, sculpture, and varying painting techniques. The nuanced black-and-white contrasts he employs evoke a powerful, chaotic, and occasionally tranquil effect.

The complexity of media paired with the simple black-to-white spectrum grants Belous absolute control over the emotional resonance of his work.

Belous is a student of experience, continually learning, evolving, and feeling. His art is a snapshot of his psyche - past or present - reflecting his essence in the most raw, primitive, yet profoundly complex way he can conceive.
